The Leader of the Month Program
Teachers are asked each year to identify outstanding student leaders to recognize during the months of September through May. Teachers are asked to select one student from their homeroom who has best exhibited the specific Leader in Me Habit during the past few weeks. The selected students will then be recognized in front of their parents and peers during a monthly school wide assembly, they will receive cupcakes, juice, and a recognition packet, and will have their picture posted in the atrium on the Leader of the Month wall!
The 7 Leader in Me Habits are those that students and staff will focus on throughout the year. The 7 Habits will give us a monthly focus on common attitudes that we want all students, parents, and teachers to learn and demonstrate. We believe a key way to help students internalize the 7 habits being taught is for us to “catch” them demonstrating these traits throughout the month. We want the 7 habits to be digested, discussed, and transferred from the head to the heart.

What parents can do at home to help:
- Take a few moments each week to discuss the habit of the month with your children.
- Try to “catch” them demonstrating the habit of the month and let them know how proud you are of their excellent behaviors.
- Help them understand that these habits fall in line with having good character - which means doing the right thing, simply because it is always right to do what’s right, and that having good character determines success!
